Philly.com: St. Hubert supporters raise $722,000 to keep school open
Supporters of St. Hubert High School for Girls have raised $722,000 in an effort to keep the 70-year-old Northeast Philadelphia institution open.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has announced plans to close St. Hubert’s and three other high schools because of declining enrollment.
School supporters presented their case for keeping St. Hubert’s open ti diocesan officials on Wednesday.

There were streaming tears, shouts and cheers as the ladies of Saint Hubert’s let out their frustration via Monday morning’s rally on the front steps of their high school.
“Honestly, I think they made a mistake,” said senior Erin Adelsberger. Fellow senior Morgan McCarthy agrees. “This is a punishment we don’t deserve.”

As has been a common scene on Torresdale Avenue since word came that St. Hubert’s High School is set to close at the end of the school year, faculty, staffers and current and former students lined the sidewalks in brown and gold Friday morning for a rally and an announcement.
Flanked by city and state politicians, school leaders vowed to fight. Messages of support and offers of donations came pouring in soon after the Blue Ribbon Commission’s recommendation, but the fight to save the all-girls school began in earnest with Friday’s event.

NBC News: Students, Parents Rally Against Catholic School Closings
Students at St. Hubert’s School in Mayfair rallied Monday morning. On Friday, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced that it will be closing four of its high schools and 44 of its elementary schools at the end of the school year in June. St. Hubert’s is one of the schools set to close.
Monday’s rally was organized by students though teachers were also invited to participate. It started at 6:30 a.m. and ran until 7:30 a.m. just before classes began.

Hundreds of students massed outside St. Hubert High School in Northeast Philadelphia this morning in a protest against the Archdiocese’s plans to close the 70-year-old, all-girl institution.
They held signs and chanted while passing motorists on Torresdale Avenue honked their horns in support. The students started their protest while it was still dark at 6:30 a.m. and started classes on schedule.
About 675 girls attend St. Hubert’s.
